I don’t disagree with you. The fact that some people need special accommodations, such as reader-functions in the browser to efficiently use the web is not an oddity; it’s an absolute reality. I have no problem with that. In fact, I welcome it.

What I DO have a problem with, however, are companies who build/market a product that supposedly addresses accessibility problems while it doesn’t, makes your inaccessible website into one that complies with WCAG when it doesn’t, and makes assumptions that people with disabilities will just use those tools when they won’t.

If you have a need for accommodation to use the web, you already have the tools you need installed on your computer. Why would anyone want to forego their own tools to use some crappy excuse for a one-size-fits-all solution that never truly helps anyone anyway? No one website is important enough that someone would need to learn to use an entirely new set of tools for it.

The problem these overlay vendors address is real (websites are not accessible). But the solutions and the promises these same vendors make (we will make these inaccessible websites accessible to you) is not.

THAT truth is pretty simple to me.
